DETAILS: WHAT: CHIC-A-GO-GO – THE MOVIE BIG SCREEN PREMIERE WHEN: Sunday March 2, 2007, 3pm, Movie screens at 4pm WHERE: The Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. PRICE: FREE! CHIC-A-GO-GO, one of Chicago’s most popular cable access television programs, presents Chic-A-Go-Go - The Movie on the big screen of the majestic Portage Theater in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood. The digital feature will be proceeded by the premiere of a short children’s musical video, Goblin Good Day, and the event will kick off with one of Chic-A-Go-Go’s famous dance parties (to be taped for a future telecast) on the grand Portage stage. The local dance show Chic-A-Go-Go has been a local fixture for over a decade, but its producers looked farther back for inspiration when crafting the feature-length version. Paying homage to the rock 'n' roll b-movies of the 1950s (much of the script was based on a transcription of the 1956 AIP film Shake Rattle and Rock!), Chic-A-Go-Go - The Movie sees Miss Mia, her puppet sidekick Ratso, and the Chic-A-Go-Go Dancers facing the threats of anti-rock 'n' roll activists, a local crime boss, and a stodgy judge. Jam packed with music and dancing, Chic-A-Go-Go - The Movie features performances by Milt Trenier (who appeared in the greatest of all 1950s' rock 'n' roll films, The Girl Can't Help It), Thrill Jockey recording artist Bobby Conn, Bloodshot recording artist Kelly Hogan, and underground hip hop legend Sharkula. The film also features a cast of familiar faces. The anti-rock crusaders are played by Chicago radio legend La Donna Tittle (R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet,” WJPC’s "Your Tittle in the Middle"), character actor Don Stroup, and filmmaker Bohus Blahut. Actress/musician Mia Park revives her Miss Mia character, her love interest is played by country/psychedelic musician Lawrence Peters, her boss portrayed by film critic Sergio Mims, the gang leader by Delilah's Mike Miller, the judge by sculptor Eric Nix, and the police officer by conceptual artist Derek Erdman. Chic-A-Go-Go - The Movie, a no-budget romp, is packed with action, laughs, shoddy puppetry, cheap wigs, and enough great music to have you dancing out of your seat! The multimedia event will begin at 3pm with a Chic-A-Go-Go dance party on the Portage stage. That will be followed at 3:45 by a preview of the Goblins' upcoming children's video, Goblin Good Day. The one-hour film will start at 4pm. The Portage is located at 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. www.portagetheater.org 773.736.4050 DANCERS IN THE MOVIE: In the future we will release a new Best Of DVD that may feature many dancer from over the years, but the Chic-A-Go-Go movie only features dancers from a few select tapings.
